Al Gomes graduated from Caruthers High School in 1942. His wife Irene Gomes also went to C.U.H.S., and so did his three daughters: Linda Gomes (now Linda Carter), Cheryl Gomes (now Cheryl Williams) and Lisa Gomes (now Lisa Cattuzzo). Even though Al has not had a direct conneciton with Raisin City School he is still a supporter since he understands that Lady Falcons make excellent future Lady Raiders. It gives Coach Carter great pleasure to acknowledge this portion of our website to Mr. Al Gomes. Mr. Gomes is not only someone who you would see at all Caruthers High School games, but he is also visible throughout the community, encouraging kids to excel in athletics and academics. Al received the "Golden Apple Award" from the A.C.S.A. (the Association of California School Administrators). The award goes to only those who have provided outstanding support to communities and schools. Al said "I enjoy going to watch kids perform. I hate to see kids walking down the street just doing nothing. I encourage them to get a good educaiton and make use of themselves."
Former Caruthers Elementary School Superintendent Judy Statler said of Al in 1991, "He is always there, if I need a volunteer for something, I know I can count on Al. He knows the value of a good education, but at the same time supports extracurricular activities. He sees the importance of these two working together. He also gives financial donations. Mr. Gomes is an unselfish and caring person who believes that the sucess of nation depends on our youth."
Coach Carter would like to also add that he is extremely proud of his grandpa and his acomplishments and is very proud to be his grandson.
